Upper Arlington Rotary World Service Mayan Families Project
In 2011 Upper Arlington announce our biggest international project to date in support of Rotary International’s challenge for international humanitarian reach around the globe.
Upper Arlington Rotary has committed to a multi-year world service project in the western highlands of Guatemala working with an organization called Mayan Families. The goal of our initiative to focus on projects addressing sustainability including:
· Clean Water
· Basic Children Education
· Children and Adult Literacy
· Nutrition and hunger
· Health and Medical Education
· Educational and trade Skills for Adults
So far Upper Arlington Rotary has been responsible for the opening a middle school in the small mountainous village of Tierra Linda outside Panajachel, Guatemala, building housing for families without permanent shelter and securing the preschool foundation in Tierra Linda.
Rotarians from Upper Arlington make trips twice a year to Guatemala to determine key future projects and meet with Mayan Families NGO to access current project progress. With the broad club and member involvement Upper Arlington Rotarians are making a major positive impact around the world.
